Subject: More on the Tree ordinance

Dear Mayor Patterson
I wanted to send this note before the City Council meeting to encourage your support for the Tree ordinance, which is coming before you tomorrow night. It has been a long time coming and it is my opinion that it offers the City an enforceable ordinance while protecting personal property rights.
You were sent a package from the City which includes the proposed ordinance. I think you will find that:- Private trees are not as stringently controlled as public trees
- The City Staff is clearer about who is responsible to make the tree decisions
- There will be a Tree Fund established to help protect existing trees and plant trees
- There will be a tree committee to help educate the public about the importance of trees and how to properly care for trees.
- Removal permits will be easier to get and there will be no gray area, which has been a problem in the past.
The Tree sub committee has spent four years working with you, city staff and each other to create an easy reading, clear, fair and enforceable ordinance.
