Subject: Council Meetings and High Tech
Date: 2008-02-09
Several people have written and asked about the City of Benicia "streaming" its meetings online. About a year ago the Council changed its minutes format from a detailed transcript to "action" notes leaving much of the qualitative statements out of the minutes. At this time, dvds of the Council meetings (and Planning Commission) are available upon request. The public read the staff report supporting this change which included the idea of streaming the council meetings in the future. Right now the capacity for the city to provide this does not exist. There are issues of equipment, staff, and other such barriers. Staff is interested in putting this system in place but would need direction from Council along with some revenue to do so. This and other ideas could be discussed at the up coming Priorities meeting February 26th.
