Subject: City Manager's Report for Week Ending December 14, 2007
Date: 2007-12-16

The City Manager, Jim Erickson, sends the end of the week reports and this one is especially informative.

  1. YATF: the Mayor, Council Member Schwartzman and I met with two members of the Board (Steinman and Swizer) and Janice Adams today to discuss the YATF and various concerns about it. We talked about pursuing a process to reexamine what we are trying to accomplish and how we go about doing it, in short a strategic planning process involving all stake holders. Janice Adams and I are going to meet to flesh out how we might best pursue this prior to the next meeting of this group, the first week of January.

  2. Vehicle Repairs: the City has a duty to obtain bids for this work. That's not a new rule, it's the laws and rules under which we operate. In PD, some of our staff believed that we did not need to do this when universally, for example, when a third party will paying for the work (when someone other than the City is liable). We have made it clear there are no exceptions, other than genuine emergencies. Additionally, it has been made clear that all vehicle repair decisions will be made by the staff of the Vehicle Garage, not an operating Dept. Sorry about the on-going drubbing we are taking in the paper over this.

  3. Willow Glen Skate Park: a notice is being sent today letting interested persons know that both the Council's request for review of direction from Nov. 20 Council Meeting as to Skate Park possibilities south of 780, as well as Mayor Patterson's request for conducting a facilitated process of stakeholders to revisit Willow Glen Park as a skate park, will be on the Jan. 15 agenda. There has been much interest in finding out when these matters will come before Council.

Have a great weekend - Jim
