Subject: Get Out The Vote - YOU are wanted!
Date: 2007-10-31
We need you!
You can help at the polls on Tuesday, November 6th:
Volunteer for being a Get Out The Vote polling place monitor. Show up Tuesday morning at Café Voltaire for coffee and bagel and get your assignment for one of the 12 polling places. After getting clear instructions from our team, go to the polling place with a cell phone. All you have to do is read the voters' list twice - once in the morning and once in the evening. We will tell you the rest.
It is new and may seem difficult, but actually is old time politics and very rewarding.
Here is why we have to do this:
Tuesday is election day and it is predicted to be a low turn out. The downside of "off year" elections is that there are not a lot of issues on the ballot and, since it is a local election, the news coverage from the out of town newspapers is sparse (if at all). I believe that Benicians like small town Benicia and do not want to see the town become overwhelmed with traffic and unsuitable development. All the outside money pouring into Benicia is to pave the way for the so-called Seeno project. Why should people who don't live or have locally owned businesses in Benicia influence our election.
Show up Tuesday and help your neighbor remember to vote for Benicia's future!
Send email to me (elopato@comcast.net) and Susan Street (sustreet@pacbell.net) or call: 707.746.5668 to volunteer for the whole day or half day. We need your help! |
